Surveillance VCRs are different than a normal VCR you buy at your local store. There are several ways they may vary. One, they can record much more time per tape. This is most often accomplished using a time lapse technology. This basically slows the speed of the tape while recording, allowing more recording to fit on a a tape. Two, surveillance VCRs often have alarm contacts on them as well. This allows them to record on motion or control some other alarm device when recording is taking place.
