CCTV cameras can prove effective in dealing with instances of crime, according to one expert.
Pauline Norstrom of the British Security Industry Association believes that footage recorded by the devices can prove useful in criminal prosecutions.
Ms Norstrom, CCTV section chairman at the organisation, commented: "Time and again the police take advantage of CCTV images to reconstruct events, identify offenders and make high-profile calls for public support in their enquiries."
The expert went on to say that CCTV security measures might additionally help countries to respond to the threats posed by terrorism.
She also highlighted her organisation's commitment to ensuring that "checks and balances" are in place to deal with CCTV use.
Earlier in the month, Wandsworth Council outlined a number of recent incidents which have seen CCTV used in a positive manner.
The authority has noted that such cameras have helped to address problems such as street brawling.
