When it comes to low light viewing cameras there are two types of technologies available:
Both will get you a nice picture in low light and nighttime conditions, but each type has its advantages which we'll outline below.
Infrared Cameras
- They will without a doubt give you the best low light viewing. If your situation dictates that you need the best low light viewing possible, then you absolutely want to go with an infrared camera
- They are available in color. Most infrared cameras are color during the daylight and then automatically switch to b/w when it gets dark. There is a photoelectric sensor that detects when it gets dark and turns on the LEDs and switches the camera to b/w when it is dark.
Low Lux Cameras
- They have a much lower power consumption. If you're plugging in for power, this is not an issue. But if you are planning on battery operation, low lux cameras are much better as they have around 1/3 the power consumption of infrared cameras.
- They are more covert than infrared cameras.
- They are slightly smaller in size.
- There are no LEDs to worry about. The LEDs on the infrared cameras have a slight reddish glow to the LEDs themselves. It is not noticeable or anything like that, but if you look directly at them, you will see a very slight reddish glow. If you need the cameras to be as covert as possible, then you will want to go with the low lux cameras
We offer a wide variety of both infrared cameras and low lux cameras which can be found using the links below.
