Invisible Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)

The 940nm Infrared LED (light emitting diode) is virtually invisible to the naked eye at night or in extremely dark locations. This camera is considered a specialty camera. It is not IP67 rated or mass produced like any of our other cameras on other pages of this website. The surveillance industry does not offer this kind of camera like it does the 850nm cameras.

It is ideal for theaters, sleep clinics, store rooms, warehouses, nursing homes, service vehicles, and  other locations where maximum discretion is required.

Most board, pinhole, bullet, and even outdoor IR LED cameras are not 940nm compatible. It takes a special camera to be compatible with 940nm illumination.

Less than 3% of all surveillance cameras are equipped with 940nm light emitting diodes (LEDs) or even compatible with 940-950nm illumination. Basically, all infrared LED cameras have the 850nm LED which has a slight red/pinkish glow. The 850nm is the most common because it does put out more useable light for a camera to see and record.

For this reason this is the only webpage and only category link to our 940nm infrared cameras.  When located outside, this camera should be protected from rain, snow, and sunlight by using the included sunshield. It should be located under a soffit or eave of your house whenever possible. They are not as durable or as weatherproof as our 850nm IR cameras.

Select Field of View

The field of view (FOV) of a camera is dictated by the lens size (in millimeters). The smaller the mm lens number, the wider the FOV. The larger the mm lens number, the more narrow the FOV.  Please utilize the FOV tool to the right for the best lens selection for your application.

Select 56 or 104 LEDs

We offer the 940nm LED cameras with 56 or 104 LEDs. The 940nm LED does not put out as much usable light as the 850nm LED. Thus, more LEDs are required for good nighttime viewing. For example, 24 of the 850nm LEDs are about equal to 56 of the 940nm LEDs, and 48 of the 850nm LEDs equals about 104 of the 940nm LEDs.

Full color in normal light, with a 1/3" Sony Super HAD CCD that automatically switches to black and white with infrared illumination in low-light conditions.
